The Eucalyptus youngiana is one of the most spectacular flowering plants that is endemic to Western Australia and is featured through the use of its gumnuts in this roller.

The youngiana gumnuts are encased in a handcrafted timber cage with two separate compartments. The layer between the two compartments has holes in it which allows the youngiana gumnuts to move between the cages when moved, creating a similiar effect to that of a rain maker. When rolled along the ground the youngiana gumnuts roll over the dowels in the cage creating a totally different sound and learning adventure.

This versatile resource will allow children to explore sound and movement when shaken. When rolled it enhances large motor development, eye hand co-ordination and spatial awareness. Through discussion children will have opportunities to connect with country and our local flora. They will be able to discuss concepts that link with early numeracy development and expand on their scientific knowledge.
